UK PM May: Lawmakers have made it clear what it needs to achieve in talks
After the lawmakers accepted the Brady amendment to replace the Northern Irish Backstop with an alternative, British Prime Minister Theresa May has delivered below-seen remarks.
- We will take this mandate forward.
- I will talk to the EU.
- In contrast to a fortnight ago, lawmakers have made it clear what it needs to achieve in talks.
- A majority of members have said they will support a deal with changes to the backstop.
- It is now clear that there is a route that can get a sustainable majority in this House.
- We will seek legally binding changes to the withdrawal agreement.
- Negotiations with the EU will not be easy.
- The House has reconfirmed its view that it does not want a no-deal Brexit.
